Welcome to My Personal Page
On August 5th 2016, we became Puppy Raisers for Canine Companions for Independence, raising Filbert. He came to us at 8 weeks of age and we were to socialize, teach manners as well as 30 commands for him to be ready for Advanced Training at the age of 20 months. During that time we took him to the movies, dinner, vacations and virtually everywhere we went. After 20 months we returned to Delaware, Ohio to the North Central Region and he matriculated and started his Advanced Training with the special trainers for 6 months. He could be released at anytime for a variety of reasons. It was a long wait, anxiously awaiting monthly reports on his progress. Graduating dogs can be placed as a Service, Skilled Companion, Hearing and Facility dog. The day we received a call from his trainer saying he was matched as a Facility Dog we were ecstatic. On August 9, 2018 we returned once more for Filbert's Graduation and to meet his forever person. We got to see him and spend time with him before we met her. During lunch we learn what he was going to be doing. She is a Physical Therapist in Indiana where she works with children with physical and developmental disabilities. We immediately knew it was the perfect match. Filbert had a love for children from a young age and not only would he work with kids but she has 3 young boys of her own. She has chosen to stay in contact with us and let us know what he's up to, we are so grateful for this. She has shared how he's helped pick up a cane and deliver it back and how he's helped children with their balance. We are so happy and proud of the purpose he's found.
On January 6th 2018 we picked up our second puppy to raise, Turf. He has been super fun to train and is very loving and also likes to be cuddled by anyone who's willing. He will return to the center in May 2019, where he will begin his Advanced Training for 6 months. We are in the process of socializing and training everyday and hope he finds his purpose as well. This has been one of the most rewarding volunteer positions we've ever had. Our mission is to continue to provide these assistance dogs who are given to graduates FREE OF CHARGE. Your donations are so appreciated by the people who want and are waiting to gain their indpendence.
